Frequently asked questions

Does compression reduce image quality?
For JPEG and WebP, yes — compression is lossy, so very low quality settings will show artefacts. The default quality of 80% gives a good balance between file size and visual quality. PNG is always lossless regardless of the quality slider.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images never leave your device — there is no server involved at any point.
What's the best format for web images?
WebP generally produces the smallest files while supporting both transparency and good quality. Use JPEG for photos without transparency, PNG for graphics, logos, or screenshots where lossless quality matters, and WebP when broad browser support isn't a concern.
Why is my PNG output larger than the original?
PNG uses lossless compression, so the canvas re-encoding may produce a larger file than the original if the original was already highly optimised. Try switching the output format to WebP or JPEG for a smaller result.
Is there a file size or batch limit?
There is no hard limit — the only constraint is your device's available RAM. Very large files (20 MB+) or large batches may slow down on lower-end devices. The ZIP download works for any number of results.
